EWA and EURO-MEI publish recommendations to close the gender pay gap in the audiovisual industry
The European Women’s Audiovisual (EWA) network, a community of women audiovisual professionals advocating for more gender equality measures in the European film industry, and UNI Europa’s Media, Entertainment, and Arts sector (EURO-MEI), are releasing a set of three publications on the gender pay gap in the audiovisual sector, providing tools and advice to act towards more equality. FERA actively contributed to the collaborative discussions that led to these publications.
Firstly, the “Call for Action” aims at promoting gender pay transparency and closing the gender pay gap in the European audiovisual sector. It highlights the EU Directive 2023/970 which requires gender pay gap reporting for companies with over 100 employees, pre-employment pay transparency, and a ban on pay secrecy. The Call advocates for a wider implementation of pay transparency measures and recommends that these measures be better tailored to the needs of the audiovisual sector.
The second publication “We all need to change” emphasizes the need for collective and individual efforts to address the gender pay gap in the audiovisual sector. Practical steps include normalizing pay discussions, improving negotiation skills and supporting pay transparency. It highlights the importance of collective action through unions and professional organisations, as well as industry initiatives, urging professionals to challenge pay secrecy, negotiate fair rates, and engage policymakers in closing the gender pay gap.
Lastly, “Don’t fear the gender pay gap reporting” shares advice and good practices to employers on how to collect, analyse and report on gender pay data to promote pay transparency.
